SIGNAL

SIGNAL Therapy Services is a person-centred counselling practice. The name comes from a simple idea. Life can become crowded with expectations, past experiences, relationships and ways of coping that make it difficult to hear ourselves clearly. Therapy can offer somewhere to slow things down, make sense of what is happening and begin finding your own signal amongst the noise.

SIGNAL

About me

I’m Dave, a person-centred counsellor and the therapist behind SIGNAL.

For me, counselling starts with getting to know you as a person: what has brought you here, what life feels like from where you are standing, and what you would like to explore.

I work with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, bereavement, neurodivergence, relationship difficulties and questions around identity and self-esteem.

Over the years, my counselling and wider professional work has also brought me alongside people with learning difficulties, complex mental health needs, addiction and forensic histories. This has given me experience of working with people whose circumstances and experiences can sometimes be complex, while always keeping the individual rather than a label or diagnosis at the centre of the work.

My role isn't to tell you who you are or what you should do. It's to offer a relationship where we can explore things openly, make sense of what is happening and allow you to find your own way forward.

Therapeutic values

  • Person-centred: you are the expert on your own experience.
  • Non-judgemental: a space to be honest without performance.
  • Unhurried: making sense of things at your own pace.
  • Direct: warm, but without clinical distance or jargon.

The philosophy behind SIGNAL

There can be a lot of noise in life: other people's expectations, old experiences, relationships, responsibilities, self-criticism and ways of coping that have built up over time.

Somewhere within that is your own experience: what you feel, what matters to you and how you want to live.

I don't see therapy as removing all of the noise or turning you into a different person. It's about creating enough space to begin understanding what belongs to you, what may have been carried for a long time, and what you might want to do differently.

That's what finding the signal amongst the noise means to me.
